Hexagon Pod Cafe

Ditchling Beacon's Hexagon Pod Cafe aims to provide locally sourced food and drink to all visitors to Ditchling Beacon.

Its purpose is to generate an income which will support various sustainability projects. The cafe is a nature-inspired design which uses beehives as the inspiration for its hexagonal shape. I used Siberian larch panelling as this is a renewable resource that is quite hardy and resistant. This is coupled with a low carbon steel frame, and stainless steel counters for cleanliness. With a variety of food and drink aimed at a variety of users (taking into account allergies and preferences) it should cater to most. The counters are dual heights so that it is more accessible for those in wheelchairs and with pushchairs. It also features a retractable cover that can be pulled across for more inclement weather, and there are tables and chairs if users which to sit and enjoy a beverage/sandwich/cake.
