Around the World
My game "Around the world" offers a challenge, boosts your geographical knowledge, a fun fake travel experience and it's a great family game.
I'd categorise it as 12+ solely because some younger children aren't as patient as maybe those older and their focus nowadays is technology. I think this game would also be beneficial in airports or on planes as something to pass the time for passengers and staff.
Rules:
Maximum 5 players.
Players start with £200.
The starting point is Europe’s airport.
Players will take turns rolling the die.
Players must travel around the board, collecting one souvenir from any of the countries within the four continents (Europe, Africa, Asia, and America).
To acquire the souvenir, players must correctly answer a trivia question based on the country they've landed on. A misguess = no flag.
Players pay a £50 fee when they cross into different continents and have to stamp their passports.
In total, players should've collected four flags, one from each continent.
If players are unsuccessful in getting a flag from one of the continents, they'll have to go around the board again, try to land on a country in that continent and get the trivia question right.
The first person to arrive back at Europe's airport (also the finishing point) with their four flags wins. To reach there, roll the die from your current position on the board. If the die lands on a higher number than there are squares left, the player can't move. But if the number is lower or the perfect amount, they can.
The squares on the board:
4 continent airports.
Flags of the countries.
Danger zone: border control you're jailed, and you miss a go (avoid this by getting a trivia question right or paying a £500 fine).
Fortune: collect the card and see what luck it brings. For example, it could say, ‘you get a free souvenir’.
Fate: collect the card and see whether it's good/bad. Will it say ‘miss a go’ or 'steal another player's flag’?
Free £50.
