Two Thumbs Up

The hope for this t-shirt design is that it resonates with anyone who gets their thrills in the great outdoors and using the forces of nature, push themselves to their limits of control.

This project invited me to engage my visual thinking by introducing techniques to give graphical compositions balance and structure. For this composition, I used repetition and symmetry to balance the image and exploited negative space to create impact, emphasising the stillness and strength of the mountains.

What makes my design unique is it represents me. The abstracted images of the hands are my own hands and this designed developed through an observation that, from a certain angle, my double jointed thumb looked like a mountain peak. I also have a passion for activities that engage you with nature and push you to your limits, like snowboarding.

The brief of the project was for the design to be printed on a white t-shirt however, following on from the project I experimented with different colour palettes. Overlaying the image onto a black background abstracted the image even further and pushed the use of negative space to a whole new level.
