Competition

Every project submitted represents the curiosity, creativity and hard work of our Design students at the Open University. Students were invited to submit up to two projects completed during the 2025/2026 academic year. We received 45 submissions from 32 students across our 4 core design modules, showcasing a diverse range of ideas, approaches and design thinking. While every submission contributes to this celebration of student achievement, one exceptional project from each module was selected, alongside an overall competition winner.

Employability by Design

This year, the Open University launched its second Sustainathon, a dynamic, week-long online event in which STEM students teamed up to solve real-world sustainability challenges set by leading charities.

The initiative aimed to boost students’ employability and sustainability awareness through hands-on, project-based learning. We were excited to partner with the National Trust and West London Waste Authority.
