Crossbody Bag

Rachel Denderowicz

Project Detail

This project involved designing and creating a wearable handbag inspired by the appearance of a jewellery box. The aim was to create a fashionable accessory that was both functional and visually distinctive while demonstrating creative problem-solving throughout the design process.

My Process

My design process involved sketching ideas, selecting materials, creating prototypes, and evaluating different construction methods. Each stage required testing and refinement before progressing to the final design. The completed handbag successfully combines practicality, creativity, and sustainability through the reuse of existing materials. The final product reflects my ability to solve design challenges independently while creating an attractive and functional fashion accessory.

One of the main challenges was finding a suitable fastening system. I tested a variety of materials and mechanisms before deciding that a magnetic closure would provide the most effective and elegant solution. Rather than purchasing specialist components, I experimented with materials available at home and repurposed a magnet from an existing household item. I also incorporated a chain strap and decorative jewellery-inspired features to reinforce the concept and enhance the overall aesthetic.

About me

I love being creative and turning the ideas in my head into something real. Whether I am drawing, designing, building, or experimenting with materials, I enjoy the process of bringing ideas to life. Creating Catch a Flight allowed me to develop my love of illustration and game design, while designing my handbag combined my passion for fashion, creativity, and hands-on making.
