Artfolio

Mark Robinson

Design Brief

Transform at least one object found either around your home, in your recycling or bought second-hand, into something that has a completely different function or purpose.

Project Description & Process

A drawing of the puzzle case, a drawing of the possible transformation of the case and an image of the case when closed and ready to transport.

The Artfolio is made from an old puzzle case that we had not used for some years and was perfect for what I wanted to create. As a design student and someone how loves to draw I wanted to create an art station that was completely mobile and could be taken anywhere without the hassle of carrying multiple different art packs and a light board. Looking online for a mobile workstation they just don’t seem to exist thus making me want to create one even more.

By using the old puzzle case/folio I was able to take the two puzzle mats and stitch them to each side leaving lots of space for all my art pencils and pens, fine line pens and light board by using some elastic and stitching each item in place to all be in one convenient place and with the aid of a power bank for the light board and then creating a stand to give the tilt action to the board and a shoulder strap for carrying, this is now a completely mobile art station that could be used by millions around the world across multiple different industry’s.

Two images showing the transformed case in use. Pens and pencils are held in place with elasticated bands. A drawing easerl is flat on the case in one image and raised in the other. It appears to be lit.

As an artist and design student I have lots of art equipment across multiple different packs and it would be handy to have it all in one convenient place that is easy to carry.

The Artfolio is a fully mobile art station that can be taken anywhere you want to go!

Three images, one showing the case in use indoors, another showing it closed and being transported and the third showing it in use out of doors by the sea.
