Garden Game
Arisa Serifovic
Description of Project
My project is a garden themed educational board game designed to teach real gardening skills in a playful way. The game works through simple mechanics: players choose beneficial bug figurines, move around the board using a spinner, and collect tomatoes, the game’s currency by landing on tomato spaces, completing good deed cards, or winning the Harvest Pot. These tomatoes are later exchanged for Water&Sun tokens, and the first player to collect all their tokens wins. The intervention benefits players by turning gardening knowledge into something social, visual, and enjoyable, helping both children and adults learn naturally through play.
Problem Statement
The problem I tackled was the lack of engaging, beginner friendly ways for families to learn about gardening and its biodiversity. Many people find gardening information overwhelming or uninteresting, so I created a format that makes those facts memorable through interaction and visual cues. Symbols on the board match illustrations on the deed cards and figurines, helping players connect information quickly and intuitively.

My Process
My process involved researching gardening facts and rewriting them in a short, friendly tone. I designed the board in Canva and built strong links between the board, cards, and components to highlight biodiversity. To add more playfulness, all the components are toy like and engaging. Early test plays showed that children especially enjoy matching facts to illustrations, while adults learned new information too. The main limitation is the need for further play testing to refine pacing and game length.

I’m a mum of two challenging myself to pursue something I’m passionate about. During my studies I hope to build confidence and find a job I truly love.
