Canal Caddy
The canal caddy is piece of design aimed at tackling a lack of environmental solutions by my local canal side. I aimed to create a multifaceted piece of design that strived to foster community involvement and biodiversity.
My design features a shed like structure containing a bin and bin bags, as well as specially designed litter picking equipment, with a dual ended net and grabber for collecting rubbish both in and around the water. As well as this we have homes for hedgehogs and voles built into the base, to create a safe space for wildlife.
On top of the caddy there stands a flower bed filled with native pollinators to help nurture biodiversity, as well as bamboo insect hotels to provide a resting space for pollinating wildlife such as butterflies and bees. Through community engagement the canal caddy provides a cleaner and happier environment for everyone, while holistically providing for its surrounding nature.
