Design Problem
There is a problem with people having a lot of fashionable items, jewellery, clothing and not
knowing how to sell them to people with disabilities or get the sizes correct.
The proposed invention is an app that utilises augmented reality (AR) technologies. The app will allow the user to try on clothing virtually without having to go into a shop and try on clothing in a changing room. It works by having a 3D image that is the same size as the user and then clothing can be added like a dress up doll.
The initial starting point emerged from the real-life experiences many plus size women face while trying to find clothing that fits. Many retailers either fail to stock their plus sized clothing range in-house or they just don’t make plus sizes. Then customers are often subjected to online shopping, where sizes are incorrect. Leaving them with no option but to buy multiple sizes just to see what size fits.
Description of the Project
During my research I discovered that some retailers like H&M have already started implementing virtual wardrobe technology. Using and iterative design process. I designed a designated area or building that housed VR technology for you to see before you buy. Then I wanted to reimagine this concept in a more sustainable and community-focused way. I decided to focus on second-hand clothing instead of new items, shifting the emphasis to charity shops and circular fashion. A virtual wardrobe app using augmented reality, allowing customers to see how clothes would look on their bodies without physically trying them on or leaving their homes.

About me
I wanted to learn the design process so I could apply my knowledge and start my own small fashion business. My goal is to study a masters in design.
