Delivery Dash

Nathan Bolland

Delivery Dash is a family-friendly board game for 2–4 players, where rival couriers race to deliver packages across a bustling town while navigating event cards and strategic challenges. Designed to reflect real-world delivery scenarios, the game blends educational value with engaging gameplay and offers flexible playtimes and strategic depth for all ages.

Design Brief

Design a game based on a service.

Delivery Dash is a board game for 2-4 players of all ages. Players take on the role of rival couriers navigating a busy town and delivering packages. To start, players choose a coloured token and lanyard to represent their delivery company and from their chosen depot they roll a dice to determine how many parcels they need to deliver and then on each turn roll to determine how far they can move. Landing in a yellow zone requires an event card to be drawn - these include shortcuts, traffic, compliments, complaints and many more. Successful deliveries reward the player with a double dice roll on their next turn. The first player to deliver all their packages AND return to their depot wins the game!

Description of the Game

The game was created to subtly reflect real-life delivery challenges, and offer potential for educational value in a playful format. This concept appeals to families, casual gamers, and even more skilled players as complex strategies can be planned to streamline routes. Games can last from 10 minutes to over an hour and the use of an optional timer can dramatically increase the required turn speed.

The development process included early prototyping, extensive playtesting, graphic refinement, and iteration based on user feedback. This project also served as a personal learning journey for myself with it being the first board game I’ve created.

I’m a graphic designer who enrolled in U101, with the goal of branching out into other areas of design. I’m hoping to use these new skills to enhance and expand the services I offer.
