Design Brief
Design a single-storey, freestanding, roofed shed with a specific purpose. The purpose of your shed will shape your design.
Description of the Project
My concept design is a reading nook in my garden for individual stories of exploration, creativity and security. It is for personal use, intended to be a third space and a home. I chose to use navy and burnt orange due to the emotions they are associated with, blue is representative of calmness and peace, orange is representative of warmth and creativity (The Open University, 2024), these are emotions that I want the shed to invoke in the user.
Additionally, the space connects the user with nature by having indoor plants around the room and bifold doors which can be opened on nice days to allow a breeze and the sounds of nature through the shed. Flowerbeds surround the exterior, to promote pollinators and other animals in the space providing a new habitat.

Process
I used Pinterest to gain inspiration from other reading nook designs and consolidated them on a board. Once I had an idea of how I wanted my shed to look using this inspiration, I created a mood board and collage which showed design choices that did not fit with my prior expectations of the project. I used this exploration and my prior expectations to refine my design into my final concept design.

About me
I want to develop my skills in graphic design as after graduation I want to be a graphic designer creating covers for music albums to channel my love for music.
